Kudos for Google…

Just a homespun graphic of googleGoogle sent me this link a little while ago, and it meant a lot to see it.

If you didn’t know about this. A couple years back I competed in Google’s Project 10 to the 100. My foundation project was to build an education system that allowed an open forum for educators and subject matter authorities to discuss and dictate curriculum (not politicians/civil leaders), utilizing up to date education methodologies(our public education system is old and non-competitive globally), and most importantly…free.

Well…obviously, I didn’t win the grant, but the Khan Academy did win, and allowed their curriculum to be translatable in a number of global languages, allowing for an education system that is FREE. It’s almost exactly what I was hoping for.

I just wanted to say that while there is a LOT of banter on what Google’s mission is…they are one of the few big players that are in it to make the world a better place, not just fill their wallet. It was cool to see that they’d granted not just the money from Project 10 to the 100, but also about 100 million more to other initiatives.

Google (and Microsoft) taught me a long time ago that employers can choose to be a part of the solution, rather than being just another part of the system. I wish everyone shared the same business model.

PS – I swear I’ll post more. Really. This is just a phase I swear 😉

How to lose a vote. Don’t EVER turn your back on Hillary Clinton…

On February 15, Hillary Clinton gave a speech touting American disdain for other governments’ censorship and restriction of free speech, while at the same time…a peaceful demonstration by a long-time U.S. veteran (Ray McGovern) was met with intolerance and that same restriction on our own soil.

The poor ol’ guy. All he did was stand up and turn his back on Clinton while she was speaking.

Here’s the video, the guy didn’t even say anything until it was evident that they weren’t going to let him stay.

What the hell?!

Look, I understand the need for security. But if everyone was on their game, they should have known there was a protester in the crowd…not only this, but the guy is a vet! This wasn’t just treading on our free speech…this was jumping up and down on it and then spitting in the eye of those that risk their lives for the name of.

Whoops. I was going to say freedom…but apparently that’s only available to people that aren’t directing that at our government. Over the last few weeks our own governments actions, in conjunction with that of a number of private firms are getting outed for only obeying the law when it suits them and when their own reputation isn’t at stake. By this same demonstration of physical censorship…we brand our own country as committing the very same deplorable freedom of speech violations Secretary Clinton was denouncing in her speech while they dragged him away. lame, very lame.

…every year, it seems like the pickins on politicians that aren’t hypocrites gets down to searching for needles in a haystack. I was already tired of Republicans years before Bush Jr. was done…seems the Dems are just out to make my opinion unilateral. Luckily I still know of a few decent people I’d vote for (all Libertarians – go figure)…it’s just too bad how corrupting the government is.

-Stay safe, and for our future’s sake, vote smart people.

The List

A long time ago, my friend Rob (aka Loki) and I began a list.

It was a list of people that simply needed to stop existing within our world…in any capacity. We had one rule..think globally, act locally. Essentially it’s a standard of friendship that mandated people we kept around us had something to offer the human race at some level in a positive manner. This offering could in fact be overshadowed by continued lack of morality, lack of self-respect, lack of respect for others, no respect for freedom, and/or worst…an inability to understand and thus modify their impact on the world.

The people that by virtue of existence, action, or personality provide the worst examples of human beings. An epitome of what we as growing and open-minded individuals, should either avoid or endeavor to re-educate.

Come on…you know people like this in both directions…most politicians…Dentists in Highland Park…jerkoff sociopaths in Austin with zero self control…people that change lanes without signaling…people that jump in your lane and slow down…people that get in your lane at all…people that think it’s cool to give things to their loved ones and take it back when they get mad…people that buy Audi’s and don’t bother paying for their kid’s food, boarding, or even clothes…people that have sex in your bed and deny it later…people that don’t accept you for who you are…people that think that change is impossible therefor not worth the effort…people that don’t courtesy flush…people that look up hookers on their wives laptop…

You know…those people.

So, if you have someone that really deserves to be on The List, feel free to send me all the dirt at thelist@tonytown.com.
