Foreign Cars…

I just read an article about how Ford and some other motor company were joining forces in revitalizing some factory…in Thailand.

The article itself isn’t the focus, but the chain of thought it inspired is.

Why on earth is our government allowing foreign business to leech money out of our country? Is Ford no longer American based?
(I honestly don’t know…I am asking)

In our desire for anything that makes us different, I feel like we have sort of sacrificed some of this country’s financial foundation by allowing foreign business and industry to prosper more than our own. That is beyond free trade…it’s actually harmful to the US business model. We are our biggest consumer, right? Bueller?

I mean, the same argument can be dished out for a number of different industries, but it comes down to people trying to maximize income by any means necessary rather than have a few standards regarding WHO ultimately gets sacrificed for these profits?

I know I am being vague…it’s on purpose. It’s honestly getting late and I haven’t researched enough to lay out and prove my point…doesn’t make it any less true. Just less acceptable.

But then again, I suppose that’s how we like bad news eh?

By the way, totally unrelated. My roommate’s young son, after getting tucked in, made his dad come over and give me a hug goodnight because he forgot. 😉 I know…unrelated.

But I started off griping about foreign cars and now you’re warm and fuzzy anyways right?

…so my job here is done. 🙂

Goodnight World…this is me hugging you all goodnight!

It’s not all that bad…

Sometimes I’ll notice that the brighter I see things, the darker others tend to see the same view. At the same time I’ll kick back and smile and say to myself, “Self, not too shabby at all.”

…the great part is that I mean it.

My rants here may leave the impression that I am one sour angry punk. If you feel better with that impression, I implore you to read no further, because I can live with it, and if it allows you to make sense of the world…well…my work is done.

But if you’re the least bit curious…30+ years of telling myself I’m screwing things up has finally led me to understand that I wasn’t always screwing things up. A few very key changes in my life, combined with more than a few key blunders, led me here to a spot that is warm n fuzzy when I need it to be. Those things missing aren’t regrets. They are goals & ambitions, some of which I’ve had planned since I was 8.

See there wasnt just The List, there was also The List. Which is to say that there is a list of things I promised myself I would do in my lifetime. Believe it or not…I’ve already knocked out most of them. Those that are left are the projects that leave a mark and leave you grinning like an idiot all the down that nasty fall into the abyss.

You see I am already there, so now all that’s left is alot of the generic stuff (like swim with dolphins, do my jig on the great wall, meditate at the top of the great pyramid). Dont get me wrong there are a couple other things that are way higher in priority, but still…I am already happy.

…so I guess it’s just time to get happier, eh?

The List

A long time ago, my friend Rob (aka Loki) and I began a list.

It was a list of people that simply needed to stop existing within our world…in any capacity. We had one rule..think globally, act locally. Essentially it’s a standard of friendship that mandated people we kept around us had something to offer the human race at some level in a positive manner. This offering could in fact be overshadowed by continued lack of morality, lack of self-respect, lack of respect for others, no respect for freedom, and/or worst…an inability to understand and thus modify their impact on the world.

The people that by virtue of existence, action, or personality provide the worst examples of human beings. An epitome of what we as growing and open-minded individuals, should either avoid or endeavor to re-educate.

Come on…you know people like this in both directions…most politicians…Dentists in Highland Park…jerkoff sociopaths in Austin with zero self control…people that change lanes without signaling…people that jump in your lane and slow down…people that get in your lane at all…people that think it’s cool to give things to their loved ones and take it back when they get mad…people that buy Audi’s and don’t bother paying for their kid’s food, boarding, or even clothes…people that have sex in your bed and deny it later…people that don’t accept you for who you are…people that think that change is impossible therefor not worth the effort…people that don’t courtesy flush…people that look up hookers on their wives laptop…

You know…those people.

So, if you have someone that really deserves to be on The List, feel free to send me all the dirt at thelist@tonytown.com.
