Subtweeting #521

liam neeson meme from imgflip https://imgflip.com/i/49hzjyI’ve been refraining from writing for a long time. The world got a little bit crazy, and my writing is and always had been intended an outlet of importance only to myself. But this year…2020…it has sucked more than anything has sucked before. Seeing so many people hurt, so many people sick, and so many people left without any real help, it’s kind of lit the fires again (so to speak.) This is me just dipping my feet back in the pool. No citations, no extra research because honestly I don’t have time for it. But who knows, maybe I will start making more time for writing again.

So…here it goes. My subtweeting is usually to avoid the crazy mob of pundits’ fans and their socks. Maybe someday I’ll shift a focus to being an influencer, but right now most of what I see is people using their powers to rile up their fans with shit-poor information.

The bigger problem with this, is that it is inspiring conflict, not resolution. Inspiring people to act and protect is beautiful. Inspiring people to suppress, to harm, or do violence, by word, inference, or gesture…that makes one part of the problem.

If the response is violence, suppression, or harm, it means that the system is either incapable of addressing the problem, or there is an agenda that specifically seeks to condone/promote the disparity.

If you’re wondering why there isn’t more oversight, simply look at everyone not voting for it. That’s literally all that is necessary. Vote them out, and vote representatives in that support term limits.

It might take a decade, but the end result will be all of the old good-ol’ boys will be gone, and younger, less corrupted representatives will only get 8 years(or whatever) to make their difference. The old guys will not be able to maintain their status quo.

We would also see quickly, a more diverse representation. Is the majority still white? Yep, but not for long. By creating/supporting initiatives that lessen the strength of minority votes, institutional agendas remain entrenched.

I hate to say it, but look at Russia. Putin’s playbook was a long long game, and it worked. Ignore that he’s scary as hell, but he systematically realign most of Russia to his agenda. I think honestly that’s the same playbook we’re seeing from the political institution now.

A small change in policy now nudges demographics to a more controllable voting situation. Think of it as non-geographic gerrymandering. And here we are, letting it happen, year after year, letting the same people do the same things to us.

Vote them out…vote them out and for heaven’s sake, don’t let them stay and continue to do harm.

About

Tony Hunt 2016A long long time ago in a living room far far away, I started taking all my thoughts and journals and basically everything I’ve ever written, and transcribed them into a journal of sorts on my computer. At that time, it was more an act of preservation than intent to publish. I just wanted to be able to read those journals and remember the days gone. Since that time, that journal has gradually grown and evolved into my little playground here online. My blog has become my journal, it’s an extension of me of a sort.

So…me…well…I am a geek, an old school tech-head, a staunch Buffalo Sabres fan, a very infrequent artist, an author in progress (what blogger isn’t?)…and most importantly *grin* I am just another guy that loves to read, write, cook, and live happy. A long time ago I was once known to both injure and get injured regularly by swinging swords at people in the SCA and Amtgard, and I have a penchant for stopping traffic doing the right thing catching proverbial bullets regardless of how much its gonna cost me in blood, sweat and tears.

BUSINESS/CAREER
I used to spend my weekdays making sure a massive network of very expensive servers stayed up and running, my nights wishing I had more time to spend, and my weekends making up for everything I missed and/or wanted to do in the past, but since then I started my own company, Tony Hunt Consulting, which is literally a big extension of my technical skills for hire. It’s allowed me to really start relaxing and enjoying my work on my own terms.

Most recently, I have been getting more and more into the realm of coffee, a client of mine as it happens turned out to be a master roaster, and has elected to include me on his journey. Currently we’re incubating a number of coffee companies, including content creation, roasting, and cafe concepts. It’s been a real treat to find a hobby thats turned into a second career (again) and i look forward to sharing all of it through here as well.

CHARITY
If you’re not helping some-one or some-thing out of sheer habit, then you aren’t helping enough and I think community service should be an obligation, not a punishment. When I’m not slowly destroying my sanity working on my business, I can sometimes be found doing things like jumping out of airplanes, saving small third-world countries, and having coffee in Brazil(not really, but I am probably thinking about it a few times a day.) Occasionally I used to help Habitat for Humanity build houses here in DFW. More recently, I have found my calling with Operation Safe Escape. Operation Safe Escape is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that assists victims of domestic violence and associated crimes. We Educate and Train survivors of domestic violence, stalking, and harassment in various methods of personal, physical, and digital safety, help them to Escape their abusers by erasing their digital footprint and protecting themselves in the real world, and Empower them by working to increase their privacy and overall safety.

Also, through all the covid problems, my brother and I make PPE face-shields for healthcare and first-responders that need them. If you know of a healthcare or first responder unit that needs help with Face-Shields, please feel free to contact me directly (my email link is all over this website.)

About ten years ago I wrote a short fantasy story that slowly evolved into a novel and I’m about halfway done with the first draft of it. While it’s clearly a fantasy novel, it’s also clearly an allusion of my own journeys and experiences on the path to find some clarity.

So what else do I do? I go and have fun if at all possible! I used to spend a pretty significant amount of time doing volunteer work but in the last few years I’ve slowed that down considerably. I honestly miss it and am starting to think I might start putting more time in. I really enjoy helping those in need and actually try to make it fun. I am also a devout tech enthusiast and spend a significant amount of time helping people learn about social media, blogging and how to promote themselves online.

If you noticed I post a lot of recipes here on the blog. I like to think I can cook like there is no tomorrow, but I think its a learning experience that I hope never ends. Eventually I plan on publishing a book of recipes, but in the meantime I just like testing all the good food on my guinea pigs friends and posting the results.

In a nutshell, that’s me!
